Interior Design Q&A: Designing Around Knotty Pine
May 23, 2014 | 9:40 amTrying to design a room around knotty pine in the walls? Let’s drop in on this Q&A to glean some useful insights:
Q.
I have knotty pine wall in a 19×13 room with minimum light and I want to open up the room with carpets and window treatments please help me decide on colors that would lighten the room. I want to bold the room, and I have a puppy.
A.
There are a few things we would need to know before we could assist you. What is the function of the room? Do you have existing furniture in the room and what color and texture is the furniture? Without personally viewing your space, we would generally suggest natural fibers and light colors might lighten up your room. Regarding window treatments, you will have to consider intended use (privacy, decorative, etc). If privacy is not an issue, sheers are a wonderful way to lighten up a room. We might recommend a line of sheer fabric that is machine washable (great for dog lovers)! Regarding the carpet, you might want to consider a sisal or jute rug. They are very durable and offer a light and natural look that might mix well with your knotty pine wall. You might also consider painting that wall with a whitewash to lighten the room. Thank you for the question and please contact us with any of your home improvement projects.
