Interior Design Q&A: Coordinating Colors from One Floor to the Next

You want each room – and each floor – to be unique, with its own “vibe.”  Yet all this uniqueness still has to “flow” naturally from one floor to the next.  How is this accomplished?  Find out in this Q&A:

Small office – 2 rooms upstairs taupe/green and library is burgundy and cream. I carried this color in the hallway and down the stairs and first floor hallway. I have two rooms downstairs to paint and would like to know a color that would go?

If we are correct in understanding that it is the cream color that you carried in the hall and down the stairs, you have a variety of color options to use with the cream. With the cream you can consider almost any color, however, you want to be sure and keep the same “feeling” intact throughout the office. You have used rich, traditional colors upstairs and you may want to continue to do that downstairs. One option you might consider is using something in the gold color family. Do you have any upholstered pieces in the two rooms downstairs that you have to match? Due to the fact that you have burgundy, taupe, and green upstairs, you could use the burgundy, gold, and taupe downstairs. Using this color palette, the office will still keep that rich, professional feeling and the burgundy should work well to tie the space together.
