Interior Design Q&A: Colors for Open Kitchen, Dining Room
August 2, 2016 | 7:49 amQuestion.
What color should I paint my kitchen and dining room? There is no break off point, so I need to paint both. I have Pergo floors in a wheat color and a green speckled counter top with a very small, narrow kitchen. I was looking at beige or a color called Tabu – a light green. I’ve hung a black chandelier over an oak table.
Answer.
From what you have explained, your idea of using beige or light green sounds reasonable. A lighter color in your kitchen may help the kitchen appear larger. To help make a narrow space appear more proportioned, you may want to consider painting an accent wall. For example, use a darker color on the back wall of the kitchen or dining room. This should help bring the wall into the room and help to create a focal point. Make sure this “accent” wall is one you would want the eye to be drawn to (put your favorite artwork or furnishings against this wall).
