Interior Design Q&A: Wall Paint Selection Given Mahogany Furniture
January 3, 2016 | 7:16 pmQ. I am building a “BIG” new house with high ceiling, formal living, and dining, den and keeping room. Most, if not all, of my furniture will be mahogany. Kindly help to select carpet and wall color for the above.
A. We would need additional information about your home, including your style, likes, and dislikes, before we could direct you toward specific colors. You might begin by looking at neutral-colored carpeting to install in your home. This neutral flooring could allow you to decorate your house in any color palette and style you choose. If you have young children or pets, you may want to consider carpeting with a pattern that could help hide dirt and stains. Regarding wall color, you might start by considering the feeling and mood you intend to portray. Do you like warm colors (reds, yellows, oranges) or cool colors (blues and greens)? Or perhaps you would consider a complimentary color scheme (those colors that are located across from each other on the color wheel) – red and green are an example). Another option could be to create a monochromatic color scheme (choose your favorite hue and then use a hue one shade lighter and one shade darker as compliments).
